6/27/2016 – Tick-Tock

Tick-Tock

Tick-tock, tick-tock
I can hear the ticket-y clock

Up and down
Wandering all around

Drink some tea
Will it make me sleep-y

Here I am
It’s 3 a.m.

Now it’s time
To write a rhyme

An hour more
The clock strikes four

Wish I had a man to hold
Hold him close
While we grow old

Not any man would do
Truly wish it’d be you

Five makes it’s way
Now it’s time to start the day

No sleep all night
Pray the day will be alright

6/26/2016 – RED RED ROSE

This is a Robert Burns’ poem.

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve’s like the melodie
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.

Robert Burns

6/25/2016 – TELL ME

TELL ME

Stillness of the quiet
Trade winds caress the skin
Alas, the mind is wandering yet once again

Pondering the timeless question
Who are you with and where are you, my dear
Your words are written on the page
Conveying what I want to hear

The truth is so naked and so frigidly bare
Sometimes it’s worth covering it up
Advice is, better be aware

Tell me what I want to hear
Polish up those lies
Certainly a cunning liar
Can even hide it with their eyes

The truth may be buried for many, many years
Can’t ever change it or brilliantly rearrange it
So just tell me what I want to hear

The words might ease my mind a bit
And make me think you care
Eloquently reassure me, my love
It’s the truth I can not bear

6/24/2016 – FRIENDS

For my great friend, Bobbi, in Hawaii:

FRIENDS

Just talked to an old friend today
It’s been a few years gone by
She asked me when I moved away
Already been twenty years, we gasped!

Time Warp has befallen us all
We’re all walking the plank
Step outside, and come back in
And we’ve already turned 60, 70…
Fill in the blank

Remember the day when I modeled my hair
Now when I look there’s “grays” in there
But we can find comfort in a voice on the phone
In the eyes of a true friend, no one ever gets old

Friends are one of the best benefits in life
Treasure a friend more than silver or gold
They can bring much hope in a world that is cold

6/23/2016 – MEASURE OF LOVE

This magnificent and brilliant poem is my favorite, but I didn’t write it.

MEASURE OF LOVE

If love were measured by farther or far;
Miles from home or a twinkling star.
If love were poured like wine from a jar
Bought from a stall in some twilight bazaar,
Or served on the Host like divine caviar…
That feast goes with us wherever we are.

If love were a gauge marking hours and days,
A kiss or caress, or a passionate gaze.
If love were a stage and upon it sad plays,
Or the lines of a sonnet fixed on a page
Like blood on a bandage, a lock on a cage
Where love is held hostage and meekly obeys.

If love were a castle and desire its gate,
Envy its vassal in dungeons of hate.
Streets of indulgence paved with delight

Where torches of longing burned through the night,
Towers of rapture, gardens of grace,
Could mortals abide such a glorious place?

If love were a precious stone or a gem
Cleverly sewn into some beggar’s hem
To have and to hold, to fondle, caress,
To covet as gold but never to guess
The true measure of love isn’t sterling or carat,
Simply the pleasure to give and to share it

6/22/2016 – INTELLIGENT QUOTIENT

For my brother,  Ronnie:

INTELLIGENT QUOTIENT

Homo sapien IQ is running dry
Too much lead in the water
Might be one reason why

And let me add another note
Most Americans aren’t qualified to vote

Time machine quickly transport to polite society
Of upper crust companions to bring back sanity
Or whirl me to a luxurious yacht with genteel company

Send all the cell phone clutchers back to school once more
Offer them a Humanistic Education and watch the IQ’s soar

6/20/2016 – ONCE IN A LIFETIME

ONCE IN A LIFETIME

Once in a lifetime Summer Solstice Moon
What a captivating night for folks to spoon
Waited all day to see it and swoon
Above the clouds in the Pacific North Wet (West) sky

That spectacular moon is there riding high
Thoughts of the Colorado night air
To my chagrin thoughts won’t get me there
It’s pouring down rain AGAIN!

Holy smokes, I can never win
Sure did want to see that Once in a Lifetime sight
Can’t move the clouds…try as I might

Someone’s enjoying that Lover’s Moon
Some are alone and can not share it
Guess they’ll have to grin and somehow bear it
Stawberry, amber, rose, whatever shade

Upon reflection I think I have it made
Once in a lifetime, that is quite miraculous
Where’s my dozen roses? That’s all in the past-ulous
Really would love a box of candy

Or a good-looking man that’s extremely handy
Can’t look at it! That once in a lifetime moon
Won’t get a chance to see it again anytime soon

Once in a lifetime Summer Soltice Moon
What a captivating night for folks to spoon
Some are alone and can not share it
Guess they’ll have to grin and somehow bear it

Stawberry, amber, rose, whatever shade
Upon reflection I think I have it made

Once in a lifetime, that is quite miraculous
Where’s my dozen roses? That’s all in the past-ulous
Really would love a box of candy
Or a good-looking man that’s very handy

Look at it! That once in a lifetime moon
Won’t be seeing it again anytime soon

6/20/2016 – SUMMER SOLTICE

6/20/2016 – SUMMER SOLTICE

Full moon rising
It’s not surprising
Thinking about thine eyes again

Mystified, qualified, requests defied
Thoughts escape into fantasy
That’s the thing that will never be
We will beg to disagree

This love’s alive
It lives within
Fed by words
And thoughts of sin

Moon, your magic we can feel
This love’s alive
Is it real
